Best places in Harrogate for family photos

Harrogate, North Yorkshire is such a fabulous place for family photos—it’s incredibly varied, from woodlands perfect for exploring to beautifully open green spaces where kids can run free.

One of my absolute favourite spots in Harrogate is Valley Gardens. It has lovely open grassy areas, beautiful flower beds, plus a café and play park. I photograph lots of families there throughout the seasons, and it really is so versatile for every type of family.

Another gorgeous location is Harlow Carr. In summer, this place truly comes alive with an incredible range of flowers and trees. There are plenty of spots for a chilled family picnic, cosy snuggle time photos, woodland exploring, or even just playing games with a colourful floral backdrop.

Nidd Gorge, just outside Harrogate in Knaresborough, is perfect if your family loves walking and exploring in the woods. It’s such a fun location for photos. What does that mean? Well, some kids can be a little shy, and getting out into nature looking for bugs or cool sticks can really help bring them out of their shell. Or maybe your child just loves getting muddy and seeing what they can find… and I’m here for all of it.

And finally, one of the most famous spots in Harrogate for a particular season is The Stray, where the gorgeous cherry blossom trees bloom every April. Long rows of trees create the most stunning backdrop for family photos, and people travel from all over to see them. They only bloom for around two weeks each year though, so it’s a bit of a blink and you’ll miss it moment.

Honestly, this is my favourite place to be in spring. 🌸
